James Stohler Private Pilot

Everyone please congratulate James Stohler on completing his Private Pilot Certificate on August 15th. He has been working at Rockwell this summer and took his checkride the day before he left for Purdue for school! Mike Noel came to Green Castle to do the checkride. A nice picture of James here after the checkride - all smiles!

Hopefully James will write here about how his checkride went. We always love hearing the blow by blow accounts.

Did Gabe get his Instrument checkride in today? Looks like the weather cleared up this afternoon.

Flying at FCM

Today I got to fly a beautiful Porterfield Collegiate. It was built in 1941 and owned by a friend of mine who flies it out of Flying Cloud airport by Minneapolis. It has the 65 horsepower Continental in it. It was kinda fun flying an airplane like that out of a controlled airport. We got cleared for takeoff and then bugged out to the west for some airwork and a landing at a nice grass strip. Then back in over Valley Fair for a landing. Fun day!

757 Simulator

I recently got to fly a 757 simulator at NWA's headquarters in the Twin Cities. It was a blast! The sim was very realistic with sound and movement. A friend of mine from college is an instructor there (Paul Whipple, right seat) and hooked me up. My first landing was slightly assisted by Paul, but the second was all me. It wasn't the softest of landings, but I made it down. Flaring a 90-ton aircraft is not easy. It was a workout.

Good idea on blog! -Josh Baynes
